The Touring Experience

Taking a major exhibition from city to city – and country to country – isn’t easy.

Venues, languages and local partners constantly change, while opening dates are set in stone. Successful tours depend on adapting quickly while keeping the visitor experience consistent.

That’s why Musealia chose us, Imagineear, as its travelling exhibition technology partner.

Since 2015, we’ve helped them share powerful stories with audiences across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Our partnership has included Titanic: The Human Story, The Berlin Wall: A World Divided and Auschwitz: Not Long Ago and Not Far Away and Seeing Auschwitz.

Hardware

Audio guides for travelling exhibitions need to be robust, versatile and reliable. We supply our Mirage or Piccolo device, multilingual devices that are designed for large audiences. The intuitive devices have on screen displays which can show language choices, stop numbers, titles and relevant imagery without distracting from the exhibition itself.

Our Connect Boxes also allow devices to synchronise with exhibition films and other audiovisual installations, bringing audio interpretation and exhibition media together as part of the same experience.

Logistical Support

Moving an exhibition between countries brings practical challenges, from shipping and customs to installation and testing. We work directly with host venues, exhibition producers, local AV companies and logistics partners to coordinate equipment, train venue staff and provide ongoing technical support.

Our teams provide remote support across multiple time zones, with replacement equipment dispatched when needed and on-site technical support available for installation and more complex issues. Our network of trusted European partners also allows equipment to be received, repaired, updated and sent on to the exhibition’s next venue.

Evolving Needs

As Musealia’s technical requirements have changed, our role has evolved with them. We now supply and maintain equipment worldwide, alongside software that connects devices with external media and supports remote content updates.

Our support has expanded too, from additional staff training and practical operating guides to international shipping and customs support. Existing tours can be adapted for new locations and languages, while flexible fleet management allows device numbers to be adjusted as exhibitions move between venues.

Data and Analytics

Where data collection is enabled, Imagineear can provide usage and language-selection insights across different venues. This can include patterns in how visitors use the tour, such as which stops are listened to most often and which tend to be skipped.

Comparing these insights across venues can provide a clearer picture of how usage varies from one location to the next. As an exhibition continues its tour, this knowledge can help inform planning for future venues, from content and staffing requirements to equipment needs.
