Bishop's Palace Wells
The Palace Experience
Decorative image

We relish the challenge of engaging younger visitors, keeping them entertained and involved – learning without even realising it.

At the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, we created two multimedia tours, bringing 800 years of history to life for both children and adults.

The Adult Tour explores themes of religion, power, politics and domestic life. Portraits of former bishops digitally spring to life to tell their stories, while touchscreen ‘extras’ offer optional deep-dive content.

The Family Tour follows the same route but adds quizzes, treasure hunts and mini-games:

·    Design a shield inspired by heraldry.

·    Hunt for medieval creatures in the chapel.

·    Calculate how many litres flow from the Palace springs.

·    Discover a hidden door leading to a secret staircase.

·    Dress a bishop in suitable — or very unsuitable! — attire.

Even today’s Bishop of Bath & Wells, Michael Beasley, makes a special cameo appearance.
